Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers had a representative in the Confederations Cup semi-final.
Portugal and Rangers new boy Bruno Alves were eliminated from the Confederations Cup on Wednesday night.
Fernando Santos’s side exited the competition at the semi-final stage on penalties as Chile won 3-0 in the shootout, following a goalless draw after 120 minutes.

One of the reasons why Chile drew a blank in front of goal was the new Rangers signing – the first man through the door at Ibrox this summer – as Alves, despite being 35, posted a solid performance against the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Eduardo Vargas and Arturo Vidal.
In fact, there was a mild scuffle between Alves and the Bayern Munich midfielder early on and the Gers man obviously had his Chilean counterpart somewhat rattled.

Rangers fans will have been hugely encouraged by what they saw of the new man, though, producing a performance which bellied his 35 years.
He may be heading home, but if he is half as influential for the Ibrox club as he was during this competition then those on the blue half of the Old Firm divide have a lot to look forward to from the towering centre-back next season.
Rangers kick off their season tomorrow with the first leg a first-round Europa League qualifier at home to Progres Niederkorn in Glasgow.
