Did the 19-year-old Liverpool star beat Real Madrid’s Ballon d’Or winner for pace?
Raheem Sterling’s late introduction last night gave him the chance to get a taste of what football is like at the Santiago Bernabeu.
To his credit, the 19-year-old injected both pace and energy to the occasion, as Liverpool lost 1-0 to Real Madrid during what was a very respectable Champions League performance.
While Sterling was on-field, meanwhile, the Reds neither scored nor conceded. So when the winger tells his grandchildren about his first ever game at the Bernabeu, he can technically say he drew not lost…
And something else he might happen to mention is the fact that he can claim to have outpaced Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Portugal star had a rather subdued night against Brendan Rodgers’ side, with many Liverpool fans claiming Kolo Toure had the 29-year-old in his back pocket!
And, as the above images show, Sterling certainly has a case to say he beat Ronaldo in a footrace.
Video footage of the pair running for the same ball seems to also confirm that the 19-year-old can indeed match Ronaldo for speed and perhaps even beat him.
Ronaldo had taken a touch to knock the ball forward and, when, the duo got to the ball, Sterling appeared to arrive first. The pictures are inconclusive, though, but what a feat for the Liverpool star even if it is simply a case of him drawing with the Real Madrid man.
