West Bromwich Albion suffered another defeat as they were beaten 1-0 late on in their latest Premier League game.
West Brom may have put up a better fight than they did a week ago against Huddersfield Town, but there is no getting away from the fact that defeat to Watford has left the Baggies eight points off safety and Alan Pardew appears to be on the brink.
Much of the build-up to the game against the Hornets centred around Pardew’s future at The Hawthorns. The Daily Mail reported in the hours leading up to the trip to Vicarage Road that the 56-year-old could be one game away from the sack after a nightmare tenure.
It looked as if the side may be about to pick up a valuable point against Watford as the game approached the final 15 minutes still goalless. However, Troy Deeney would score the only goal 13 minutes from time to leave the visitors deflated.
It remains to be seen whether Pardew will get the sack or whether the battling performance from his side has done enough to earn him some more time to try and turn things around.
Unfortunately for West Brom fans, some of the defining images from the game hint that the agonising loss has left some of the players and coaching staff resigned to the fact that the uphill task they face trying to get themselves out of trouble may be too great.
In one image, Pardew looks to be a beaten man, while the players at full-time are clearly inconsolable, with the most striking photo showing Chris Brunt embracing a hugely dejected Salomon Rondon.
