After suffering a heavy defeat to Barcelona on the opening matchday of this season’s Champions League, Celtic proved how they deserve to be at Europe’s top table after earning an excellent point against Manchester City at Parkhead.

In the Nou Camp, the Hoops had been rocked by a third minute goal from Lionel Messi. However, this time, it was Brendan Rodgers’ men that struck the early blow as Moussa Dembele broke the deadlock.

But their advantage would only last eight minutes as Fernandinho equalised for Pep Guardiola’s men.

The Bhoys put themselves back in front shortly after however, as Raheem Sterling put through his own net, but once again, the lead was short-lived as the man who worked under Rodgers at Liverpool atoned for his own goal by making the score 2-2 inside the first half-hour.

The second-half started at a similarly frenetic pace as Dembele took advantage of the space he was given inside the area to score an acrobatic effort just two minutes after the restart.

But City would once again restore parity soon after as summer signing Nolito made it 3-3. And incredibly, the final 35 minutes were played out without another goal being scored, ensuring that the Hoops got off the mark in Group C.

And while Rodgers would have been unhappy to concede three goals – especially as all of them came within 10 minutes of his side putting themselves in front – the result puts them third in the group ahead of what appears to be a crucial double-header against Borussia Monchengladbach.

Here are some of the defining images from an incredible night at Parkhead.
