Miguel Almiron is edging closer to completing a move to Newcastle United, as pictures were posted on Twitter of the playmaker travelling via helicopter to Newcastle by his representatives.

BBC Sport claim Newcastle are to finally break their 14-year-old transfer record by signing 24-year-old Almiron from MLS side Atlanta United for a fee believed to be in the region of £20million.

The Chronicle have since claimed that a move is getting nearer for the Paraguay cap, with the local paper claiming Atlanta’s number 10 has been booked into a hotel on Tyneside. A deal is expected to be announced within 24 hours.

Now, the player’s representatives have posted two pictures of Almiron on their official Twitter account, one of Almiron standing next to a helicopter and then one of the player in the air – en route to Newcastle.

Rafa Benitez has long been after the attacking midfielder, who scored 13 goals and created 13 more during 38 appearances for Atlanta last season. He was crucial in their MLS Cup win under ex-Barcelona boss Gerardo Martino.

The Telegraph also claim that Newcastle are closing in on two other signings, in the form of AS Monaco left-back Antonio Barreca and Benfica midfielder Andreas Samaris. Both are expected to join on loan-to-buy deals.
