West Ham United earned a hard-fought win over the Premier League champions.
West Ham United proved that they aren’t going down without a fight this season in Saturday’s shock 1-0 win over Premier League champions Chelsea at the London Stadim.
Marko Arnautovic opened the scoring after just six minutes for what was his first goal for West Ham at the 14th time of asking following a club-record £25 million move from Stoke in the summer.
It was also David Moyes’s first victory since joining the Irons last month as the Londoners built on their hugely spirited 2-1 defeat at the Etihad last week and again showed that they are willing to fight to preserve their Premier League status this season.
Moyes’s side remain in the relegation zone but only on goal difference.
Understandably there was a mix of delight and relief for every West Ham player when the full-time whistle sounded, and a nice embrace between Arnautovic and Mark Noble summed up the post-match vibes.
Noble – recalled to the first XI after back-to-back stints as an unused sub – and Arnautovic have come in for fierce criticism from the fans this season, but both were superb against the Blues and supporters will be hoping that Moyes can succeed where Slaven Bilic failed and get the best out of both of them.
