Jose Mourinho’s men will be desperate for the three points after losing to Feyenoord in the first group match of the current campaign, and they will know that dropping points at Old Trafford will severely dent their chances of reaching the knockout stages.
Whatever happens on Thursday, United will have to do it without £30million summer signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who was pictured in training this week but who is not yet fit enough to get a place in the match-day squad.
There is better news regarding Anthony Martial, who should feature, while new talisman Zlatan Ibrahimovic will start up front.
Other players on show for United in training included Memphis Depay, Morgan Schneiderlin and Matteo Darmian, who will all be hoping to get another chance to impress after sitting out recent league matches.
