Leeds United got a much needed victory on Tuesday night, defeating Blackburn Rovers 2-1 at Elland Road courtesy of goals from Chris Wood and Kyle Bartley.

Wood’s strike – shortly after coming off the bench – looked like being the game-changer, but Marvin Emnes equalised for Rovers as the Championship’s bottom club looked for their second successive draw.

It looked like they would hold out; however Leeds’ summer signing Bartley had other ideas and he scored what proved to be the winner with just four minutes of normal-time left on the clock.

It was a vital win for Leeds manager Garry Monk, who had seen his side struggle for much of the campaign to date and slip into the bottom three as a consequence.

A defeat to Blackburn would have raised serious questions regarding Monk’s position at the club but instead things are now looking up and the former Swansea City boss will be hoping to guide his side on a winning run in the weeks ahead.
