Liverpool beat Everton 1-0 at Anfield earlier this afternoon.

Liverpool beat Everton 1-0 in remarkable circumstances earlier today, with striker Divock Origi scoring a dramatic winner that almost certainly couldn’t be replicated.
The Reds went into the game having been beaten 2-1 by Paris Saint-Germain in midweek, and were looking to hit back with a big win over their bitter Merseyside rivals.
Liverpool didn’t exactly hit top gear though, and looked below par as Everton were in control for long stretches of the game at Goodison Park, with the game seemingly petering out into a 0-0 draw after the Toffees missed some big chances.
However, Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk sent a wayward shot up into the air in the 96th minute, and Jordan Pickford couldn’t grasp the ball, leading to the ball hitting the bar and falling to Divock Origi to head home a dramatic, unlikely winner.
Everton will be devastated to have gone home empty-handed having played so well, whilst Liverpool will see it as two points gained having basically resigned themselves to a draw when Van Dijk’s shot went up into the air.

The error was ultimately down to Pickford, who had looked a little erratic in other moments of the game too, though the way the ball was spinning from Van Dijk’s effort ultimately made it difficult for Pickford to deal with anymore.
At full time, a clearly disconsolate Pickford apologised to Everton fans, holding up his hands to accept the blame for the loss, with manager Marco Silva consoling his dejected goalkeeper on the Anfield pitch.
