Glasgow Rangers lost against Old Firm rivals Celtic at Celtic Park in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday.
Rangers’ Joey Barton arrives before the game
Joey Barton was a high-profile signing for Rangers in the summer transfer window.
The former Newcastle United midfielder arrived at Rangers with a strong reputation and with a lot of experience.
Many fans of the Scottish giants will have been hoping for Barton to lead the team to victory over Celtic on Saturday afternoon.
The former Queens Park Rangers midfielder, though, failed to do much of note in the Old Firm derby at Celtic Park.
Rangers suffered an embarrassing 5-1 defeat at the hands of Brendan Rodgers’s side in the Scottish Premiership game.
Barton, who joined the Gers in the summer after leaving Burnley at the end of last season, started the match and played for the entire 90 minutes.
The 34-year-old offered very little in midfield, misplaced a number of passes and was outshone in the middle of the park.
Despite the heavy defeat, Barton remained cool and calm, and he showed sportsmanship after the match.
As one of the photos below suggests, the Englishman shook hands with the Celtic players, including Scott Sinclair, after the match.
Barton looked dejected and frustrated at the end of the game, which Rangers have now got to bounce back from.
