Rangers have completed an exciting deal to sign Portuguese international defender Bruno Alves this week. His club Cagliari have confirmed he is leaving and the player has now been confirmed as a new player for Rangers.

The Pedro Caixinha signing is certainly an impressive one.

He may be 35-years-old but the defender has 89 caps for his country and has over a dozen domestic titles from his career in Portugal, Russia and Turkey. He even won a Euro 2016 medal with his nation last summer.

In his illustrious club career he has even come up against Rangers’ big rivals Celtic.

He has taken on the Old Firm rivals twice, both times whilst a Fenerbahce player. He took them on in the Europa League group stage in the 2015-16 season. Both games ended in draws. 2-2 at Celtic Park and 1-1 in Istanbul with Alves getting to grips with the likes of Leigh Griffiths and Nadir Ciftci in the fixtures.

Rangers fans will now be looking forward to seeing Alves doing the same at Ibrox next season and hopefully going some way toward closing the gap between the two clubs.
