Tottenham Hotspur got revenge for the previous meeting as they beat Arsenal in the North London derby.
Tottenham boosted their top four hopes while also putting a massive dent in Arsenal’s as a Harry Kane goal at the start of the second-half saw Mauricio Pochettino’s men pick up the three points at Wembley.
The scoreline arguably did not do justice to how comfortable Spurs were for large parts of the game. Petr Cech – who has come in for a huge amount of criticism lately – produced some brilliant stops to keep the Gunners in the contest, but he could do nothing about Kane’s header four minutes after the break.
The striker pulled off an incredible leap as he challenged with Laurent Koscielny inside the box to meet the cross and hand Tottenham a lead that they thoroughly deserved.
Despite the dominance however, Arsenal certainly had their chances to make Spurs pay for not beating Cech more than once as Alexandre Lacazette had a couple of fantastic late chances to equalise.
However, the Frenchman – who began the game on the bench with Arsene Wenger initially picking Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to the line – failed to take the opportunities, and Spurs stole back the bragging rights after their defeat at the Emirates earlier in the campaign.
The full-time whistle did not bring an end to the drama however, as Erik Lamela and Jack Wilshere engaged in a heated clash that led to players from both sides restraining the pair as they came off.
