Everton’s fine start to the season continued on Saturday evening as they beat recently-promoted Middlesbrough 3-1 at Goodison Park.
The Toffees had dropped just two points in their first four Premier League games having made a great start to life under new boss Ronald Koeman.
It looked like Middlesbrough were in line to upset Everton though, as they took the lead through a highly contentious opening goal, with Alvaro Negredo knocking the ball from Maarten Stekelenburg’s hands and into the net.
However, Everton showed the resiliency they lacked under Roberto Martinez but have already developed under Koeman, as they hit three goals before half time to win the game.
Gareth Barry – making his 600th appearance in the Premier League, spanning spells with Aston Villa, Manchester City and Everton – equalised in fairytale fashion, before Seamus Coleman and Romelu Lukaku scored to hand Koeman a fourth win in five games.
Below are some of the best photos from the game, with 35-year-old midfielder Barry unsurprisingly dominating proceedings on a day where he was certainly the centre of attention.
The images show Barry both celebrating his goal and applauding the Everton fans for their support after being substituted, whilst those Toffees supporters looked jubilant whilst celebrating Lukaku’s goal.
Others show Coleman, manager Koeman and a number of Everton players celebrating the win as well, but the night will be remembered for Barry’s landmark appearance – and some of the images below sum up his evening.
