West Ham United manager Slaven Bilic watches on as his side struggle
West Ham United’s season lurches from one disaster to the next after another thumping defeat on Saturday afternoon, this time to West Bromwich Albion.
The Hammers had been beaten 4-2 by Watford last weekend, and whilst manager Slaven Bilic wanted a response, he ended up with another 4-2 defeat.
West Brom ran riot in the first half as Nacer Chadli, Salomon Rondon and James McClean all found the net thanks to some calamitous West Ham defending, before Rondon teed up Chadli for a tap-in to make it 4-0 after the break.
Michail Antonio and Manuel Lanzini did hit back with second half strikes, but it wasn’t enough for West Ham to get anything from the game.
With four defeats from five Premier League games, West Ham have endured a nightmare start to the campaign, and with 13 goals conceded, only Stoke City have leaked more goals than the Hammers.
Fans are understandably downbeat right now; their side are shipping goals at an alarming rate, they’re out of the Europa League after a shock defeat to Astra Giurgiu last month, and their move to the London Stadium has so far proven tricky to adjust to.
It won’t be much solace for supporters right now, but it seems that the West Ham players are feeling similarly unhappy, judging by some of the images from Saturday’s game.
Above, manager Bilic was pictured looking helpless as his side struggled against West Brom, with fans no doubt feeling similarly nonplussed after Saturday’s display, whilst a clearly frustrated Dimitri Payet went over to apologise to supporters for the performance.
Winger Antonio may have scored, but that didn’t improve his mood as he cut a disconsolate figure at full time, and summer signing Simone Zaza – who was substituted at half time against West Brom – perhaps summed it up best, grimacing as he put his head in his hands during a miserable afternoon.
