Tottenham Hotspur were held to a disappointing 1-1 draw by Newport County.

Tottenham Hotspur posted a disappointing performance on Saturday.

Spurs were huge favourites to swat aside Newport County en route to the fifth round of the FA Cup – and even more so after Mauricio Pochettino named a number of heavy hitters in his first XI – including Harry Kane.

And Tottenham needed him to bail them out as Kane struck an 82nd-minute equaliser to cancel out Padraig Amond’s shock first-half opener, but the League Two side held on for a draw.

The replay at Wembley isn’t ideal for a Lilywhites side who have big Premier League and Champions League games on the horizon and the faces of a few of the Tottenham lads summed up their performance at full time.

Pochettino also named a few fringe players such as Michel Vorm, Kyle Walker-Peters and Juan Foyth in his starting lineup, and the latter, playing only his second game in six weeks, looked a tad shaky at times.

The young Argentine defender joined for £8 million last summer and it was clear on the back of this showing that a lot of work needs to be done before he is ready for the Premier League, but at 20 years of age, time is certainly on his side.
