Tottenham Hotspur’s challenge for the Premier League title appears to be over after they lost 1-0 away at West Ham United on Friday evening.

With nine Premier League wins in a row, Tottenham went into Friday’s clash in high spirits, especially having beaten Arsenal 2-0 last weekend, guaranteeing a finish above the Gunners for the first time in over 20 years.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men went into the game as major favourites, given that West Ham had won just one in their previous 11 Premier League games, but his Spurs side served up a lacklustre performance.

West Ham goalkeeper Adrian made only two real saves of note, blocking Harry Kane’s close-range effort before tipping a Son Heung-min shot past the post in the second half, before West Ham snatched the winning goal.

After Spurs failed to clear a loose ball inside the penalty area, Manuel Lanzini was left unmarked to smash the ball home from close range, scoring what proved to be the winning goal for West Ham.

That effectively ends Tottenham’s title challenge, as wins for Chelsea against Middlesbrough and West Brom before Spurs even take to the field again will seal the title for Antonio Conte’s men.

The Spurs players appeared to realise their fate at the London Stadium, as the photos below show the likes of Christian Eriksen, Eric Dier, Harry Kane, Toby Alderweireld, Hugo Lloris and Mousa Dembele displaying their anguish at losing such an important game.

Dele Alli was the most animated Spurs player after the defeat, with the midfielder looking heartbroken in the goalmouth at the full time whistle, summing up the deflated mood at White Hart Lane.
