Stoke’s Welsh midfielder Joe Allen is in the form of his life right now, finding the net regularly for both club and country – and he continued that form on Saturday by scoring either side of half time to hand the Potters a 2-0 win.

The result moved Stoke above Swansea and into 18th place in the Premier League table, but Sunderland remain rock bottom of the table after a dismal start to the season.

After the final whistle, Moyes trudged down the tunnel looking downbeat, with the Scot all too aware that Sunderland have already put themselves in a battle against the drop.

Next up for Sunderland, it’s a trip to face West Ham United at the London Stadium, and that should be a much tougher game than previously expected after the Hammers picked up a 1-0 away win at Crystal Palace on Saturday.
