The 24-year-old has endured a mixed spell with the Championship side, but has scored 15 league goals during his time at Elland Road.

Despite scoring 15 league goals since moving to Elland Road last summer, Chris Wood has arguably endured a mixed time at Leeds United and many supporters remain unconvinced that the £3m signing (via Yorkshire Evening Post) is the striker that is going to lead the Whites back to the promised land.

With that in mind, here is a look at the New Zealander’s spell with Leeds in pictures…

After failing to score in his first three appearances for the club, it appeared that Wood’s first goal for the side was going to hand Uwe Rosler a first win as manager as the Whites took a 2-0 lead at Bristol City.

While the Robins would peg them back on that occasion, Wood would soon be inspiring United to their first victory as a moment of brilliance from the former Leicester man saw them beat Derby 2-1 at the iPro Stadium. Receiving the ball with his back to goal, the forward took a touch out of his feet before curling a wonderful effort into the top corner.

Rosler’s tenure would not last much longer however. And it was Wood that prevented Steve Evans’ time in charge beginning with a defeat as his penalty earned Leeds a 1-1 draw away at Fulham. It was also his fifth goal of the campaign.

It was arguably during the Whites’ game away at Huddersfield where his partnership with Mirco Antenucci was at its best. After a difficult first-half, Leeds killed the game off with two stoppage-time goals before the break with both strikers getting on the scoresheet. Alex Mowatt would complete the rout in the second-half with a stunning strike.

After failing to score over the Christmas period, Wood, who had come in for criticism for failing to take several good chances over the previous weeks, temporarily silenced his doubters with a brilliant header against Derby County at the end of December. Unfortunately, the goal would be his last for over three months as injury saw him miss most of January.

Wood finished his first campaign as the team’s top goalscorer with 13 goals from 37 games as Leeds finished the season in 13th.

The striker made little impact in the opening game of the new campaign against Queens Park Rangers, before opening his account with a penalty in the League Cup win over Fleetwood Town. But it was his goal against Fulham that reminded supporters of his quality, as he scored a late equaliser with an overhead kick to bag the first point of Garry Monk’s tenure.

And it was his close-range glancing touch that sealed the club’s first league win of the season as they beat Sheffield Wednesday 2-0 at Hillsborough with summer signing Marcus Antonsson breaking the deadlock.
