Tottenham Hotspur beat Gillingham 4-0 on Wednesday evening.

Tottenham Hotspur are into the last 16 of the EFL Cup after hammering League One side Gillingham 5-0 at White Hart Lane on Wednesday evening.

Spurs made 11 changes from the side which beat Sunderland 1-0 on Sunday afternoon, and took a 2-0 lead as Christian Eriksen scored twice, one either side of half time.

Vincent Janssen added a third from the penalty spot, before Joshua Onomah and Erik Lamela swooped to make it 5-0 and sent Tottenham through to the last 16 in style.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men have now set up a last 16 tie with Liverpool at Anfield, and will be keen to emulate their 2014/15 exploits, where they reached the final of the competition, only to lose to Chelsea.

Pochettino will be delighted to have picked up another win ahead of Saturday’s game with Middlesbrough, and he’ll be particularly pleased that so many of his fringe players impressed against Gillingham.

Striker Janssen really needed to get his first goal given that he’ll be called upon as Tottenham’s first-choice striker with Harry Kane out, and whilst his goal came from the penalty spot, it was still a great boost for the Dutchman.

Playmaker Onomah may be down the pecking order this season, but he has a huge future ahead of him, and he again showed why he’s so highly rated with a strong display, whilst fellow youngsters Cameron Carter-Vickers and Harry Winks also started.
