Celtic thrashed Greenock Morton to reach the Scottish Cup semi-final on Saturday, despite a poor first half.

Celtic put a very ordinary first-half performance behind them to thrash Greenock Morton 3-0 in the Scottish Cup quarter-final at Parkhead yesterday.

On paper, Celtic are head and shoulders above the third-placed Championship side, but it didn’t look that way in a disappointing first half in which Brendan Rodgers’s side failed to score.

But Rodgers’s introduced Odsonne Edouard at half time in a move which seemed to inspire the Hoops, who scored twice through Moussa Dembele, and Edouard finished the scoring late on.

It’s been a disappointing season for Dembele on an individual level, the French marksman failing to replicate his red-hot form in front of goal from last season, but the Northern Irish manager acknowledged him at full time.

Plenty of Celtic fans were forced to stay away due to weather, with BBC Sport reporting an attendance of around 18,000 – 42,000 less than Parkhead’s capacity – but Scott Brown and his team-mates applauded those who managed to attend.
