However, Liverpool also picked up maximum points on Sunday afternoon, winning 3-0 against relegated Middlesbrough at Anfield.
The victory means that the Reds have ended the 2016-17 Premier League campaign in fourth place with 76 points from 38 matches, a point and a place above Arsenal.
This is the first time in 20 years that the Gunners have failed to claim a Champions League spot, and the Emirates Stadium faithful are understandably frustrated.
During the game against Everton, Arsenal fans held up banners with messages for Wenger to leave the club in the summer.
The Frenchman’s current contract with the North London side runs out in the summer, but it is not yet clear if he will stay or if he will leave.
