West Ham United have suffered what could prove to be an enormous blow after pictures of Marko Arnautovic hobbling on crutches after the 3-0 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers emerged on Twitter.

Wolves produced a second-half masterclass on Tuesday night at Molineux to earn a comfortable victory, thanks to Romain Saiss’ opener and a brace from on-loan Mexican striker Raul Jimenez.

Saiss powered home a Joao Moutinho corner with an excellent header, before Jimenez flicked in another Moutinho delivery. The Benfica loanee rounded off the victory with a deft chip over Lukasz Fabianski.

With the Hammers already licking their wounds after a dismal performance and result, fans will have been left even more frustrated after pictures of Arnautovic on crutches leaked onto Twitter.

Arnautovic made his first appearance for West Ham since signing a new contract, after a move to Chinese Super League side Guangzhou Evergrande fell through. But he lasted just 77 minutes.

The 77-time Austria international was replaced by Javier Hernandez after falling awkwardly on his right leg, and it remains to be see how long Manuel Pellegrini’s side will be without the ex-Stoke City striker.

The defeat sees West Ham slip into 11th place in the Premier League table, with a difficult game next time out against league leaders Liverpool at the London Stadium on Monday night.
