Post match on the first day of the season, Leeds midfielder sat on the pitch in despair after the loss at Loftus Road.
Leeds United’s Toumani Diagouraga looks dejected at the end of match
Leeds United’s start to the season could not have gone worse, suffering a 3-0 loss away at QPR.
For new boss Garry Monk it was a disappointment he would go on to recover from – for midfielder Toumani Diagouraga it was the end of his Leeds career.
The midfielder had signed for the Whites from Brentford just months earlier, yet the lasting image of his time at the club was this – sat on the pitch in despair at Loftus Road at the final whistle.
After a comprehensive defeat on a hot August day, it’s easy to sympathise with Diagouraga for simply wanting to take a breather – but it also showed a sign of weakness, and it would prove to be his final appearance for the club this season.
Diagouraga made one tackle in the defeat and two interceptions, completing 81 per cent of his passes, but was outshone by teenager Ronaldo Vieira making his first senior start, who outperformed him in all three categories.
Diagouraga was sent to play with the under-23s, joining Luke Murphy as a fellow senior player outcast by Garry Monk.
This week he was sent on loan to Ipswich Town until the end of the season, the Yorkshire Evening Post reported.
Win, lose or draw for the Tractor Boys, Diagouraga would be well advised not to sit on the pitch in exhaustion after the final whistle.
