Liverpool fans were treated to the bittersweet sight of Virgil van Dijk on Sunday.

The Reds hammered Wolves 4-0 at Anfield to move back level on points with Tottenham at the top of the Premier League table.

And a certain Van Dijk was spotted sitting among the substitutes, albeit not officially on the bench for obvious reason.

The Liverpool stalwart was ruled out for the rest of the season back in October but, after returning to the gym at The Axa Training Centre this week for some light workouts, Van Dijk joined his team-mates in person for the visit of Wolves.

Gini Wijnaldum was certainly aware of his presence, as the Netherlands international adopted his compatriot’s trademark celebration after firing the hosts 2-0 ahead – a gesture that brought a smile out of the big man.

It would’ve been bittersweet for Liverpool supporters because on one hand they’d be delighted to see their centre-back at the stadium, but on the other, it’s sad that he isn’t going to be on this pitch for quite some time.
