Celtic fans caught a rare glimpse of Vakoun Issouf Bayo on Saturday – and he treated them to his first goal since joining the club.

Neil Lennon’s side continued their pre-season preparations by beating Austrian side Wiener-Sport Club 2-1 in a friendly in Vienna.

Leigh Griffiths equalised for Celtic shortly before the hour mark, before Bayo, who had earlier missed a couple of decent opportunities, converted a Jonny Hayes cross late on.

In doing so, the Ivorian striker, one of 11 changes by Lennon after the break, opened his account for the Scottish Premiership champions.

Here is the moment of his maiden goal, via the club’s official Twitter account:

The 22-year-old joined Celtic for £2 million in January [Herald] but played only one minute of senior football under Brendan Rodgers, and didn’t feature at all when Lennon took the reins in February.

It’ll be interesting to see if Lennon uses Bayo more often next season.

Celtic have Odsonne Edouard and Leigh Griffiths by way of striking options, but Bayo is completely unlike the other two in what he offers and therefore he could definitely be of service.

He might not play from the start every week, unless Lennon employs a system which accommodates two main strikers, but he certainly has his uses.
