The Tottenham Hotspur midfielder suffered an injury on Friday night.
England boss Gareth Southgate has revealed to ESPN that he has sent Eric Dier back to Tottenham Hotspur.
The Tottenham midfielder came off injured after 17 minutes of Friday’s 5-0 demolition of Czech Republic in Euro 2020 qualifying.
And Southgate confirmed to ESPN that he’ll play no part against Montenegro on Monday, having sent him back to North London.
He said: “I think he will go back to his club. Hopefully not too serious, bit of a muscular injury but he won’t be right for our second game.”
It’s a worry for Tottenham.
Dier started the Lilywhites’ last game – a 2-1 defeat by Southampton – and with a trip to Liverpool on the horizon next week, it remains to be seen if he can shake off the knock.
Harry Winks missed the defeat at St Mary’s through injury and it gives Mauricio Pochettino a bit of a concern if neither are fit for Anfield.
Spurs’ top-four hopes are in real jeopardy if they lose to the Premier League leaders and Arsenal and Manchester United both win. In that scenario, they could even drop to fifth, depending on the manner of their defeat and United’s win.
