Tottenham star had to watch the game at home, but had been working on his recovery to full fitness.

Tottenham Hotspur winger Erik Lamela let fans know how he was watching the North London derby on Sunday.

The Argentine international missed the fixture at The Emirates with an injury, and did not even travel to the stadium with his teammates to see the game.

He had good reason for doing this as he explained, that he had been doing important fitness work in the morning before the midday kick-off.

Of course it was well timed so that he managed to see the game, but Lamela had to make do with watching the game at his house in front of the fire.

The winger will have gained a different perspective, watching the game nervous like a fan, unable to influence proceedings.

It is hard to say that Lamela would have been a definitive difference maker, having never scored in a North London derby, but his form this season has been impressive.

He is Tottenham’s second most creative player, averaging two chances created per game, while his defensive work also makes life difficult for the opposing full-backs.

With Harry Kane taken off late in the game, Spurs needed their best players out there, and will have to hope that Lamela’s fitness work pays off so he can figure in their next big game, at home to West Ham.
