There was a North London element involved in a Copa America game this morning as players from Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur went up against one another.

Argentina beat Uruguay 1-0 and Spurs midfielder Giovani Lo Celso wound up on the winning side.

Lo Celso came up against returning Arsenal star Lucas Torreira, who spent the season on loan at Atletico Madrid.

Although the game was in Brazil and London is some 9,000 kilometres away, there looked to be an animosity between the pair.

The Tottenham star earned himself a yellow card on 48 minutes for a foul on his Arsenal counterpart, before giving Torreira a bit of a filthy look as the latter sat on the ground.

The tenacious Arsenal midfielder was also spotted colliding with Lionel Messi at one point during the game.

Future at Arsenal?

The 25-year-old, a £26 million signing by the Gunners three years ago, doesn’t have much future with the Premier League club, no.

There’s a reason as to why Edu and Mikel Arteta loaned him out last season and it’s because there’s an agreement there that he isn’t good enough.

Even the player himself admitted in April that he wanted a return to South America, with Argentine side Boca Juniors reportedly keen – and, significantly, Torreira himself wants to go.
