Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen has joked about teammate Mousa Dembele being a ‘beast’ in his latest Instagram post.

Vertonghen is on international duty with Belgium, where he is scheduled to set a record for appearances for his country.

The centre-back posted a picture on his Instagram page yesterday commemorating ‘national animal day’ – referring to tough tackling midfielder Dembele.

Mousa Dembele of Tottenham in action during the Premier League match between Crystal Palace and Tottenham Hotspur at Selhurst Park on April 26, 2017 in London, England.

Dembele was not included in Belgium’s squad due to his ongoing injury which has kept him out of action since early September.

The midfielder has been key for Tottenham over the past three seasons, but they are now having to manage his playing time after he underwent surgery on his foot injury in the summer.

Spurs will hope he can be available for the crucial fixture against Real Madrid in the Champions League on October 17.

Former Tottenham midfielder Sandro was regularly referred to as the ‘beast’, and that is a nickname which it appears Dembele has earned himself.
