When Leeds United signed Alfonso Pedraza on loan from Villarreal in January, it was hailed as a fine piece of business from those aware of the 20-year-old’s talent.

Pedraza may have only five first-team appearances for the La Liga side under his belt, but big things are expected of the player and he has now begun to prove that at Elland Road.

On Friday evening, with Leeds 2-1 up against Birmingham City and holding on for another vital victory, Pedraza stepped up to put the game to bed in emphatic fashion.

That followed six goals and eight assists while on loan with CD Lugo earlier in the campaign, and while Leeds fans have had to wait patiently for Pedraza to make a significant impact, they finally got their wish.

Only time will tell if the Leeds loanee can fulfil his potential. However he was always going to take time to settle in a new country and a new league and Whites manager Garry Monk has used him intelligently thus far.

If Leeds complete a permanent move for Pedraza as expected this summer, the goal he scored against Birmingham may be seen as the moment a new Elland Road star was born.
