Aston Villa lost 4-0 at the Emirates on Sunday afternoon.
Aston Villa fans will be hoping that centre-back Joleon Lescott has played his last game for the club following Sunday’s 4-0 defeat at Arsenal.
The relegated Villans fell behind after just five minutes following a header from Olivier Giroud, who went on to score two more in the final quarter to seal his hat-trick.
In the dying stages, Aston Villa goalkeeper Mark Bunn inadvertently added a fourth as his unfortunate own goal compounded a miserable day for the visitors.
During the first goal, Lescott was pictured looking comically un-alert to the danger as Giroud headed past Bunn, with the 33-year-old emitting the vibe that he was blaming somebody else before the goal was even scored in a gesture which might sum up Villa’s team this past season.
The defender’s mentality and motivation has long been called into question by the club’s fans – especially after admitting it was a “relief” that Aston Villa were finally relegated last month – and that image does not do much for his cause, it must be said.
Aston Villa fans will be hoping that Sunday’s defeat represents Lescott’s final game in a Villa shirt. Being a two-time Premier League winner, he has got experience to offer the Villans, but experience may not compensate for a lack of ability and a questionable attitude anymore.
