The Sunderland goalkeeper was called up to the England senior squad after Tom Heaton withdrew through injury.

Jordan Pickford has been training with the England senior squad after his call up on Sunday evening.
The 22-year-old was brought into Gareth Southgate’s squad to face Slovenia after Burnley goalkeeper Tom Heaton withdrew from the squad due to an injury.
The Washington-born stopper has been touted as a future England number one during the early stages of his career, and he has been given the chance to join the senior squad at such a young age for a goalkeeper.
England’s Jordan Pickford during training
Pickford has warranted his call up, putting on a string of sensational performances for Sunderland, having taken on the role as number one keeper on Wearside when Vito Mannone picked up an elbow injury in late August.
The youngster has proved he is a capable Premier League goalkeeper, with an incredible performance at White Hart Lane putting the whole league on notice that Pickford is not just keeping the gloves warm while Mannone sits on the treatment table.
England’s Jordan Pickford, Fraser Forster and Joe Hart during training
Pickford has been training alongside England’s other goalkeepers Joe Hart and Fraser Forster, and the experience of working with two top class ‘keepers will be valuable to his development.
Now England’s third choice for the game against Slovenia, it is highly unlikely that Pickford will receive his first England cap, but the exposure to the senior squad will no doubt encourage him to kick on even further and ensure he is a part of more England squads in the future.
