Steve McClaren watched Leeds United beat Blackburn last night.
Former Newcastle manager Steve McClaren
Steve McClaren was pictured at Elland Road last night as Leeds United beat Blackburn Rovers 2-1.
The former England boss is out of work after being fired by Newcastle United earlier this year.
The pressure had been on Leeds heading into the game against bottom club Blackburn, and the win keeps the pressure off head coach Garry Monk, temporarily at least.
Yet a report in The Times this morning says Leeds are considering sacking Monk despite the win, with owner Massimo Cellino unconvinced by the victory.
Garry Monk manager of Leeds United
Seeing another manager pitch up at Elland Road is an ominous sign, although McClaren’s mixed record will make him a divisive figure.
He has experience in the Championship with both Derby County and Nottingham Forest, but failed to get either side promoted, and was blamed for Newcastle’s relegation from the Premier League last season.
Leeds owner Massimo Cellino is notorious for hiring and firing managers, and while it would be no surprise to see him impulsively act and give Monk the boot soon after a slow start to the season, there is little chance of McClaren faring much better either.
