Everton talent Dylan Thompson could be leaving the club this summer – and Newcastle United are positioning themselves for a move.

That’s according to The Chronicle, who report that Thompson played as a trialist for Newcastle’s Under-23’s against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday, and the photo above confirms his appearance.

When the Magpies announced their lineup for the game, the team sheet included an unnamed trialist wearing the number six shirt.

The game didn’t end well for Newcastle as they were hammered 4-0 – but fans were left wondering who the trialist was.

It’s now suggested that Thompson was the player in question, with Newcastle looking at the 18-year-old ahead of a possible move.

The centre back has been on the books at Blackpool and Manchester United, and is now looking for a new club with Everton ready to let him go.

Thompson is described by Everton’s official website as an ‘assured, ball-playing centre back’, and his hero is Rio Ferdinand.

Newcastle may well view Thompson as a diamond in the rough, though featuring in a 4-0 defeat may not have done him many favours.
