Manchester City beat Barcelona 3-1 on Tuesday night, with Everton boss Ronald Koeman in attendance.
Manchester City pulled off something of a shock by beating Barcelona 3-1 at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday evening – and Ronald Koeman was there to see their Champions League clash.
City went into the game with some confidence behind them having hammered West Bromwich Albion 4-0 on Saturday afternoon, but a visit from Barcelona was always going to be a different challenge altogether.
Barcelona’s Lionel Messi celebrates scoring their first goal with Luis Suarez and Neymar
Luis Enrique’s men boasted the world’s greatest attack as Neymar, Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi all started against City, and it was Messi who handed Barcelona the lead after 21 minutes.
Many were fearing the worst after Barcelona hammered City 4-0 at the Camp Nou two weeks ago, but City took control of the game after Ilkay Gundogan had equalised before half time.
Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne celebrates scoring their second goal against Barcelona
Kevin De Bruyne put City in front shortly after half time, before Gundogan grabbed his second and City’s third to seal a vital three points in Group C of the Champions League.
Fans around the world tuned in to watch two of the world’s biggest clubs in action, and photos emerging from the game showed that Everton boss Ronald Koeman was in the crowd to watch Premier League rivals City.
Koeman, who led his Everton side to a 1-1 draw against City last month, racked up more than 250 appearances for Barcelona during his playing days, scoring 88 goals for the Spanish giants.
It’s unlikely that Koeman was scouting any transfer targets as Everton would struggle to afford and of City or Barcelona’s top stars, and may have just been there to watch his former club Barca given that they were in the North West.
