Rangers have been linked with a move for Roma striker Umar Sadiq for some time now – and they may now be closing in on securing his signature.

The Gers have tied up a host of new signings this summer, as Allan McGregor, Jon Flanagan, Nikola Katic, Connor Goldson, Ovie Ejaria and Scott Arfield all arrived, whilst Jamie Murphy made his loan move from Brighton and Hove Albion permanent.

With the defence and midfield boosted, Rangers need to find a striker, and Roma youngster Umar Sadiq has been strongly linked with a move to Ibrox in recent weeks.

Sadiq, 21, joined Roma on loan from Spezia in 2015 and made his move permanent a year later, but he has played just six games for Roma, scoring twice.

The 6ft 3in forward has spent time on loan with Bologna and Torino, as well as Dutch side NAC Breda, where he hit five goals in 12 games last season.

A Nigerian Under-23 international with four goals in six games to his name, Sadiq appears to have huge potential, and now looks set to develop under Steven Gerrard.

The Daily Record report that Rangers are expecting to tie up a season-long loan deal for Sadiq before Thursday’s Europa League clash against Macedonian side FK Shkupi.

Now, Sadiq has taken to Instagram to post a photo of his passport and boarding pass at an airport, blanking out the destination, but all signs appear to be pointing towards him heading to Ibrox.
