A photo from 2009 demonstrates the effectiveness of the current Leeds United academy system.

Popular Twitter account @LUFCacademy released a picture of some very young looking Leeds stars from five years ago, which includes current first team player Alex Mowatt and under-21 star Chris Dawson along with Lewie Coyle.

Dawson in particular has been turning heads with his recent performances for the Leeds under-21 side, which has led to calls for him to be allowed to go on loan so he can continue his development and become a better player.

Neil Redfearn has been praised for the way he’s managed the Leeds youth system in recent times, which has also produced Lewis Cook as a first team regular for Darko Milanic to consider.

It’s refreshing to see a side so consistent in terms of the chances given to younger players while also utilising markets, which provide access to foreign players who can in turn aid their development.
