Tottenham Hotspur have snapped up Paulo Gazzaniga from Southampton.
Tottenham Hotspur have made a move in the transfer market this afternoon, having confirmed the signing of Southampton goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga on a five-year deal.
Whilst top Premier League rivals such as Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United have been spending heavily this summer, Spurs have been quiet with regards to incomings.
A deal for Ajax defender Davinson Sanchez is on the verge of completion, subject to a work permit, and manager Mauricio Pochettino has decided that he needed another goalkeeper in his ranks too.
Hugo Lloris and Michel Vorm are two experienced goalkeepers, but having seen Pau Lopez return to Espanyol at the end of his season-long loan deal, Pochettino has swooped for another third-choice goalkeeper.
Tottenham today confirmed that a deal has been sealed for Southampton stopper Paulo Gazzaniga, with the Argentinian presented holding a Spurs shirt at the club’s training ground, as pictured above.
Gazzaniga, 25, joined Southampton from Gillingham back in 2012, and worked under Pochettino for just over a year, before the now-Spurs boss decided to leave the South Coast for North London.
Born in Murphy, Santa Fe – the same hometown as Pochettino – Gazzaniga has made just 23 first-team appearances for Southampton, and spent last season out on loan at Spanish side Rayo Vallecano before returning to St. Mary’s Stadium.
The 6ft 5in stopper was behind Fraser Forster, Alex McCarthy and even Stuart Taylor at Southampton, and it’s no surprise that the Saints have allowed him to reunite with Pochettino at Spurs.
It may not be the most exciting signing ever for Spurs fans, but Gazzaniga offers more depth between the sticks, and is clearly a player that Pochettino trusts having worked together previously.
