Newcastle United appear to be closing in on a very big signing.
Sky Sports News HQ’s official Twitter account has published a photograph of Aleksandar Mitrovic photographed at Newcastle airport ahead of his proposed move to the Premier League, with a medical reportedly scheduled for Monday.
Newcastle United have been linked with the 20-year-old for some time and in comments published by Chronicle Live this weekend, Magpies manager Steve McClaren suggested a deal was not far away.
“We are very close to something,” the Newcastle boss said and Mitrovic’s arrival seems to be imminent following the latest picture.
The Serbian forward is a wonderful young talent who has already scored 43 goals in 89 matches for Anderlecht and, prior to that, 18 goals in 42 matches for Partizan Belgrade.
A natural goal-scorer who looks destined to become a true great in European football, Mitrovic would be a wonderful signing for a Newcastle side looking to improve considerably under McClaren.
Newcastle have been lacking a bona fide quality striker for some time now and it would be quite a coup to bring Mitrovic to St James’ Park.
There is of course still a risk involved as the player has not yet competed in one of Europe’s top leagues but given his form so far there is a good chance he will only get better.
