Liverpool called up youngster Neco Williams into a first team training session on Thursday.

The 18-year-old defender has been a regular for the Reds’ under-23 side this season and also started in the UEFA Youth League.

Williams is a Wales under-19 international and plays at right-back.

Liverpool involving Williams in training may hint that the Reds may consider a call up for him in the Carabao Cup later in the month.

Liverpool need good back-up for Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Williams may get an opportunity.

If Williams can prove himself, he may even present Liverpool with a chance to move Alexander-Arnold into midfield to experiment.

It would be a surprise if Williams features in any way against Manchester United on Sunday, but Liverpool could choose to bring him to travel with the squad to gain experience.
