Mikel Merino is set join Newcastle United on loan from Borussia Dortmund.
Sky Sports claims that the Spain U21 international is set to join the Magpies on loan, with an option to buy permanently at the end of the season.
The 21-year-old midfielder joined Dortmund from Osasuna in February, 2016. He signed a five year contract with the German club which was made effective on 1 July.

He made seven Bundesliga appearances for the club last season, and is looking to move elsewhere in search of regular first team opportunities.
He was spotted earlier in the day in Tyneside to complete his medical (h/t Toon Transfer News).
Merino will become the fifth signing of the club and will follow Christian Atsu, Florian Lejeune, Jacob Murphy and Javier Manquillo through the door at St James’ Park this summer.
