Toni Gomes netted a hat-trick for Liverpool’s under-18 side against Sunderland.
Toni Gomes produced a masterclass in finishing as Liverpool’s under-18 side beat Middlesbrough 5-0.
The 18-year-old bagged a hat-trick in the win, with his third goal in the rout pictured above.
Gomes now has nine goals for the season for the under-18s, a campaign which has also seen him called up to play in two under-21 matches.
The young striker signed for Liverpool in January 2015 after impressing on trial. He hails from Guinea-Bissau but is a Portuguese youth international.
It has been a while since Liverpool saw a prolific young striker come through their academy and break into the first team as a regular, with Neil Mellor coming closest to emulating Michael Owen since he did it.
Gomes is showing all the right signs of progress, and has a long way to go, but if he continues his current progression then manager Jurgen Klopp will surely have to give him a chance in pre-season, and take it from there if he seizes his chance.
