Now though, that’s all at risk. Liverpool have confirmed that they’re one of 12 teams planning to take part in a new Super League, breaking away from their current competitions.
UEFA and FIFA are furious, and the Premier League aren’t best pleased either. They’re warning teams involved that they won’t be able to play domestically or internationally; anyone involved would be limited to his new league.
This is like nothing we’ve ever seen before, and Liverpool fans are understandably outraged that their club is going on a greed-driven money grab.
Sure, Liverpool may be able to splash more cash in the transfer market, but they’re simply not going to be the same club anymore.
Liverpool fans have made their feelings known, hanging banners outside Anfield today to let the Fenway Sports Group know what they think.
‘Shame on you – R.I.P LFC, 1892-2021’ read one banner, whilst another read ‘LFC fans against European Super League’, with fans more focused on slamming this new proposal than tonight’s game against Leeds.
