Arsenal produced a Herculean defensive effort away at Liverpool on Thursday night.
Mikel Arteta’s outfit still have a very decent shot at reaching the League Cup final – where Chelsea await – after securing a 0-0 draw in the first leg of last night’s semi at Anfield.
However, the fact that Arsenal had 10 men for 65 minutes following Granit Xhaka’s red card made this stalemate far more impressive than it looks – and substantially worse for Liverpool.
Despite the frustration, Reds manager Jurgen Klopp looked in relatively cheery mood after the full-time whistle and was filmed sharing a warm embrace with Bukayo Saka directly after the game.
Is Saka joining Liverpool?
The brief exchange was made slightly more interesting by the fact that the Arsenal sensatiton has found himself linked with a transfer to Liverpool.
According to transfer expert Ian McGarry, the 20-year-old attacker is firmly on the Anfield club’s radar – and apparently he’d even be interested in a move to Merseyside.
However, the England international certainly isn’t jumping ship at London Colney to join the German manager’s project, no.
Happy
A transfer to Liverpool wouldn’t be beneath Saka, who is one of Europe’s most exciting young attacking quantities but, on the flip side, why would he leave the Emirates?
As proven last night, Arteta is clearly an excellent football manager and one who has progressively improved the likes of Saka – an academy graduate – since 2020.
The Arsenal winger needs to stay exactly where he is.
If it isn’t broken then don’t fix it and therefore, Saka is more than likely perfectly happy with his development under Arteta at Colney.
