Leeds United lost at Loftus Road last night in a defeat which did their automatic promotion hopes any favours.

Leeds United’s automatic promotion hopes suffered a bit of a dent on Tuesday night.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side lost 1-0 at QPR as United missed the chance to move top of the Championship, staying third as a result.

Leeds had a number of chances to salvage a point, but none better than the opportunity which fell their way on 79 minutes.

The hosts’ goalkeeper Joe Lumley produced a huge save to keep out Patrick Bamford’s point-blank header, after originally saving well from Stuart Dallas.

Bamford, a £7 million signing last summer [The Daily Mail], looked certain to nod home the rebound, only for Lumley to rescue his side, and the 25-year-old looked shocked over the keeper’s heroics.

It has already been a difficult 2019 for Bielsa’s side, who host West Brom on Saturday. The Whites are guaranteed to stay at least third regardless of what happens against Darren Moore’s side, but victory would give them a seven-point cushion over the Baggies in fourth place.
