There were warm scenes during Liverpool training today.

The Reds are gearing up for a visit of Premier League champions Manchester City.

Liverpool have endured a horrendous league campaign thus far, winning only two of their first eight outings.

Injuries have contributed to their dismal season but people like Curtis Jones are beginning to return.

The 21-year-old hasn’t kicked a ball under Jurgen Klopp yet since the end of the 2021-22 campaign, but he’s been back in training in recent weeks.

And earlier today, the Liverpool boss gave his midfielder a warm embrace.

Still only 21, Jones has been described as a ‘massive talent‘ by the German manager and it’ll be interesting to see if his first minutes of the campaign come against Manchester City.

But in all likelyhood, probably not.

Liverpool absolutely must win this game and although Jones will come in handy at some point this season, he probably lacks the match fitness to make a dent on Pep Guardiola’s side.

Victory would put City 16 points ahead of Klopp’s troops on Sunday and we’re still only in October.

It would be a coffin nail in their Premier League title hopes for definite and with that in mind, Klopp is likely to rely on his fully-fit players.
