Leeds United were knocked off top spot in the Championship.

Kiko Casilla’s dejection sums up how a lot of Leeds fans felt following Saturday’s 3-1 defeat to promotion rivals Norwich City at Elland Road.

The Whites arguably put in one of their most disappointing performances of the season at a time when a victory would have meant a lot more than three points given that Norwich have also spent much of the campaign in the automatic-promotion spots.

Leeds actually dominated possession and created more chances than their opponents, but there was at least one defensive error in the build-up to each of the goals, and going forward, the Whites failed to properly test Tim Krul enough.

However, it is perhaps arguably the best wake-up call the Whites could have had with 16 games remaining. Their recent form has not been strong enough, but up until the weekend, the chasing pack have not managed to move themselves to within touching distance of Marcelo Bielsa’s side.

Leeds can now be under no illusions about how hard they need to work between now and the end of the season if they want to capitalise on their current position.

Oddly, with Leeds still second and in with a fantastic chance of securing automatic-promotion, Saturday could prove to be the kind of result that Bielsa could look back upon as a positive turning point come the end of the season if they respond – even if the photo of Casilla encapsulates how the majority of the Leeds supporters feel right now.
