Nottingham Forest and Leeds United kicked off 2019 with a bang and a superb Championship clash.
The drama of Nottingham Forest’s win over Leeds United might’ve been all a bit too much for Joao Carvalho.
Aitor Karanka’s side beat the high-flying Championship leaders 4-2 at The City Ground after three second-half goals from the Reds stunned 10-man Leeds.
Kalvin Phillips was red carded on 42 minutes to give Marcelo Bielsa’s side – who were trailing 1-0 to Jack Colback’s early opener – a big uphill task in the second period.
But goals from Jack Clarke and Ezgjan Alioski helped the Whites into a shock 2-1 lead, but it wouldn’t last as three quickfire goals from Colback, Daryl Murphy and Ben Osborn helped give the hosts all three points.
Gary Lineker said on Twitter that the contest was a good advert for Championship football – and Carvalho, a £13 million summer signing [O Jogo], looks like he might agree after a mid-match photo showed how he celebrated Forest’s fourth goal.
