Leeds United were eliminated from the League Cup on Tuesday.

Jack Harrison’s name rang out around Elland Road on Tuesday night, but it was more out of support than celebration from the Leeds United fans.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side were eliminated from the League Cup after losing on penalties to Stoke City.

And it was the Leeds winger, who has brilliant since re-signing on loan from Manchester City last month, whose miss from 12 yards sealed the visitors’ passage into the third round.

Harrison was instantly forgiven by the United supporters, who sang his name while Bielsa’s squad consoled him.

One post-match photo was particularly poignant as Leeds midfielder Kalvin Phillips was snapped hugging the dejected winger, who apologetically held his hands up to the home fans who sang his name.

Shootouts often breed heroes and villains, but Harrison certainly doesn’t fall into the latter category, nor did anybody in a white shirt.

Bielsa’s side were losing 2-0 at the break and even coming back to draw 2-2 in regulation speaks volumes for their character and belief.

The 22-year-old, who earns £51,000 per week with Manchester City [Spotrac], will be back on Leeds’ left wing on Saturday when United host Swansea City in a top-of-the-table Championship clash.

And few would doubt Harrison to put this behind him and make Leeds fans sing his name in celebration rather than support this time.
