Paulo Gazzaniga made a number of impressive saves during Tottenham Hotspur’s victory over Crystal Palace on Sunday.
Tottenham ensured that they went into the international break with plenty of momentum as they followed up their Champions League win over Real Madrid by beating Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Sunday.
Spurs’ performance against the Eagles was nowhere near as convincing as it had been against Los Blancos – which is perhaps hardly a surprise given no team in world football would have a problem motivating themselves to face Madrid, while no team would find readjusting their focus back to domestic matters easy either – but Mauricio Pochettino’s men still managed to pick up the three points.
Son Heung-min bagged the game’s only goal, but it was the performance of goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga that stole many of the headlines as the summer signing marked his debut by making a number of stunning saves throughout the contest to keep a spirited Palace side out.
And it could certainly be argued that it was a stop from a Scott Dann header in the first-half that was perhaps his best, as the photo below arguably highlights.
Dann managed to get up and head the ball back across goal as a corner came in, but somehow the former Southampton man managed to get back across his line and get a palm to the ball before it was cleared by the Tottenham defence.
What arguably makes the save all the more impressive is the fact that the Argentinian probably would have lost sight of the ball at some stage as two players jostled right in front of him, as the photo shows, but he still managed to make good contact to deny the visitors, despite clearly being some distance from the ball as it approached the line.
There was a save in the second-half from a shot that was drilled across him that was perhaps as impressive, but after he made a slightly shaky start, you would imagine that it was the stop from Dann’s header that gave him the confidence boost he needed to grow into the game.
